Well...that's work experience over and done with...and some experience it was...working with leeds music support service, mainly with Diane, who does music education for SEN children...
Day 1 - not much done...started making inventory of instruments for diane...sat in on sessions with an austistic boy who didn't like me, and a physically and mentally disabled girl...bout it...
Day 2 - visited a primary school in the morning..doing a unit of work on transport...making a musical train journey (making noises on percussion instruments to make the sounds of different things passed along the journey)...and went to a nearby high school with some of the same children in the afternoon...saw helicopter on the way...and when in the ict suite, was watchin a TV showing news and realised it was cos of the raids in beeston ... scary. ..
Day 3 - Similar thing as previous morning at different school in the morning. In the afternoon we went to a Special inclusive learning centre (SILC) which was closing to play a little ceilidh for them...i hadn't been told to bring my sax or clarinet so got given a bodhran and taught how to play it XD..
Day 4 - More work on the instrument inventory...then did more of the transport work at a school in boston spa..
Day 5 - played sax in 1920s ceilidh band in pudsey...having had to transpose the music myself beforehand...but hadn't managed to finish all so had to sight transpose for the sax...quite challenging
Day 6 - diane was ill, so i got sent off with Victoria instead to play steel pans at some high school with a GCSE group (scary, since they were my age, but they were cool)...never played steel pans before so i was learning as i went along....i <3 steel pans
Day 7 - Helped in instrument workshops for SILCs...being a general handy person who was sent off to find horridly dusty glockenspiels...ugh
Day 8 - didn't come in until 12.30 (was told to do so)...and then discovered they hadn't even had lunch...so we had a break for lunch XD and i sat with rosemary and micheal...then filmed an autistic music group in the afternoon and left at 3.00 (autistic children are noisy)
Day 9 - Helped collect furniture Diane had bagsied from the closing SILC...and had an argument with a computer (so old it didn't have usb ports)...trying to get the (music) keyboard to give input, and then the speakers to get output...then discovered output required and amp...the output being sent back via the keyboard..very odd...spent the afternoon doing very little and just hanging out in the rehearsal room with rosemary, micheal and antoine (there were 4 pianos!!!)...included playing the piano duet me and rosemary played in the yr 10 recital on 2 pianos...and having scale races with antoine...
Day 10 - Did some photocopying and helped diane clear out and rearrange the instrument store cupboard...then left at 12.00
Off to france on thursday..so you won't see me for a couple of weeks...
